Trustees Mark Henderson, Mark Salmond, and Brodie Gollehon were appointed by the Board Chairman to serve as the Choteau School District No. 1 Recount Board for the results of the May 4, 2010 Annual Trustee Election. This Recount Board convened at 3:00 p.m. in the Spanish Room of the Choteau High School for the purpose of recounting the tallies of the Annual Trustee Election as Trustee Candidate Jolene Bowers was defeated by Trustee Candidate Ron Daley by only two votes. Defeated Candidate Jolene Bowers presented a verified petition requesting a recount at the May 13, 2010 Regular Board Meeting after the official canvass was conducted and the election tallies were ratified by the Board.

In addition to Trustees Mark Henderson, Mark Salmond and Brodie Gollehon, Election Administrator and Board Clerk Gloria Davis, Choteau Acantha Editor Melody Martinsen, Newly Elected Trustee Ron Daley and Defeated Candidate Jolene Bowers were present to observe the recount process. The Recount Board proceeded to open the sealed envelope containing the voted ballots and tally the trustee votes, with the Election Administrator observing as one Trustee called out the votes and two Trustees marked the tally books. The tallies from this first recount indicated a tie between Candidates Ron Daley and Jolene Bowers, so the Recount Board proceeded to conduct a second recount. On the second recount one Trustee observed as another Trustee called out the votes and the Election Administrator and a Trustee marked the tally books. This second recount verified the original election judges’ tally of 306 votes for Jolene Bowers and 308 votes for Ron Daley. A third recount was conducted in a slightly different manner and this recount also verified the original and second recount tally of 306 votes for Jolene Bowers and 308 votes for Ron Daley.

Election Administrator and Board Clerk Gloria Davis declared that the election results as ratified by the Board on May 13, 2010 stand as stated and in accordance with 13-16-418, MCA, Ron Daley remains the newly elected trustee for a three year term on the joint elementary and high school board. Trustee Daley received his certificate of election and was sworn in at the May 13, 2010 Board Meeting.

There being no further business to come before the Recount Board, this meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
